Who is it for?
This course is great for beginners. It is also helpful for those who have practiced yoga before but wish to learn or rediscover the key foundation principles of the practice. It is also suitable for those wishing to establish a strong home practice or reinvigorate an existing one.

We practice in bare feet.
What to bring
Everything you need for your practice is here for you.
Over 8 sessions, you will learn a complete yoga practice: 25 asanas (yoga postures) – how to breathe and pulse your movements within and between them; 2 highly effective pranayama (breathing) practices; and a deep relaxation practice. You will be supported to establish a daily home practice.
Home practice is an integral part of the Living Yoga system. It is recommended that you practice at home for at least 20 minutes each day to get the most out of the course and your ongoing practice. You will receive plenty of guidance as to how to go about this, including an amazing online resource, including weekly video tutorials (from The Yoga Sanctuary, Southampton, the birthplace of the Living Yoga method.)
Do I have to attend every session?
It is a requirement of the course that you attend the first 4 sessions (please check the dates before booking), and at least 4 of the remaining 4 sessions.

“The beginners intensive course is like no other beginners lessons I’ve been to or witnessed, you really embody the roots and culture of yoga! I came to yoga and I’m learning a new language! But more than anything else, in 3 short weeks, the improvement in my epilepsy is almost unbelievable. I’ve gone from ~4 seizures a week, to 3 in the last fortnight! My body relaxes now, it truly relaxes, and it’s never done that before! I can complete Nyasa without twitching! Which is huge for me when I used to twitch whenever my body was motionless! I really cannot thank you enough!
The environment you’ve created is comfortable, personal, freeing and honest. I love that you encourage imbalance* and offer alternatives within the postures for different abilities to ensure the full effect of the stretch is experienced, both internally and externally. And I love that you encourage us to be ourselves and listen to our bodies, I think we all forget to do that in the hustle and bustle of life! Any anxieties or insecurities of starting a new class, with new people and possibly making a fool of myself were removed almost instantly! The beginners course is truly something special and I would highly recommend it to anyone!”

Lucy – June/July Beginners Intensive Course
I decided to try yoga because I am over weight and have an illness (Lupus) which causes me a lot of joint pain and wanted to find some gentle exercise. I was convinced I would be rubbish and not able to do the poses, however, I’ve found that I am more capable than I thought. With the poses I do struggle with Elaine works with me to find a better suited pose, eg,by putting less pressure on a particularly weak joint.
Elaine is fantastic at making the class very relaxed. Its a beginners class so there are no expectations that you will be able to get it first time, patience and practice. I’ve found the classes relaxing, good but gentle exercise and fun!
I would definitely recommend this for anyone wanting to see if yoga is for them.
Elaine – July/August Beginners Intensive Course
Before starting the beginners intensive course I had only tried yoga from YouTube, so didn’t have any guidance whether I was doing the postures correctly. I started to get aches and pains in my joints so I wanted to try something to help me stay fit now being 50.
Elaine’s course was fantastic not too fast and was gentle. A small group which helps to make sure your doing the postures correctly.
Every time I came out of a session I felt relaxed and rejuvenated. I will be definitely starting Elaine’s level 1 class just to keep me on track. I would highly recommend Elaine as a yoga teacher and if you are a beginner to do the beginners course .
